汤川秀树（1907年1月23日～1981年9月8日），日本著名物理学家，毕业于京都帝国大学（现京都大学）和大阪帝国大学（现大阪大学）。历任京都帝国大学、东京帝国大学（现东京大学）教授。1948年，赴美国任哥伦比亚大学教授。1949年，因在核力的理论基础上预言了介子的存在，时任京都大学教授的汤川秀树获得当年的诺贝尔物理学奖。1955年返回日本。他从电磁理论得到启发，于1935年提出了关于核子力的“介子理论”。他也是第一个获得诺贝尔奖的日本人。
